Charles W. Durant is a Senior Counsel for Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) in their McLean, Virginia office where he provides legal support to SAIC’s business units performing a variety of commercial and government contracting activities. Mr. Durant joined SAIC in July 2002. Prior to joining SAIC, he was an Assistant General Counsel with then Internet Service Provider, UUNET Technologies, Inc. in Ashburn, Virginia. After completing a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Jerry Buchmeyer of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas, TX, Mr. Durant began his legal career in McLean, Virginia in 1992 as an associate attorney with the law firm of Watt, Tieder, Hoffar and Fitzgerald practicing construction contract litigation and Government Contracts. He later worked as an Attorney Advisor in the Commercial Law Branch of the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Washington, D.C., doing government contracts, and then as an associate attorney at Venable, Baetjer and Howard in their Tyson’s Corner, practicing construction contract litigation and government contracts, in their Virginia and Washington, DC offices.
Mr. Durant is a past president of the Northern Virginia Black Attorneys Association, and has served on the Board of Directors of the Old Dominion Bar Association, the Fairfax (VA) Bar Association, and the Fairfax County Public Library Foundation. He is retired from the United States Navy Reserve, at the rank of CAPTAIN.
Mr. Durant received his Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1982, a Master of Arts degree in Business Administration and a second Master of Arts degree in Management from Webster University in 1986, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1991. Mr. Durant resides in Oak Hill, Virginia, with his wife Lois, daughter Chelsea, age 17, and son Christopher, age 13.
